What the official formulary confirms

The National Drug Formulary product page lists Contrave prolonged-release tablets, licence SIN16411P. Its active ingredients are naltrexone and bupropion.

The formulary’s naltrexone active-ingredient page points to that registered combination product. A local provider listing is an additional signal that Contrave has a practical commercial route.

What this does not prove

Contrave’s registration does not establish that standalone 50 mg naltrexone is routinely registered, stocked, subsidised, or available at a particular monthly price. General medicine information on HealthHub is educational; it is not a live stock or reimbursement record.

We found no reliable public prescribing-volume data. “Registered” and “commercially listed” are supportable; “popular” is not.

Why the distinction matters

Contrave contains 8 mg naltrexone plus 90 mg bupropion per tablet and is used for chronic weight management. It is not interchangeable with standalone naltrexone used in addiction treatment. The dose, titration, contraindications, boxed warning, and intended outcomes differ.
